Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has reiterated his stance that the Footballer of the Season should come from his side, naming four players who have been “outstanding this season”.
With the end of the 2023/24 campaign fast approaching, the Player of the Season debate is raging on among football experts and fans alike.
While the PSL is yet to announce the nominees for the 2023/24 awards, Mokwena has reiterated that Ronwen Williams, Lucas Ribeiro Costa, Marcelo Allende and Teboho Mokoena should be the main contenders, giving honourary mention to Patrick Maswanganyi and Jayden Adams.
“The best of Lesiba Nku is yet to come and I can say the same about many of the new players, like Esquivel, like Lucas Ribeiro,” he told journalists after his side’s 2-0 win over Royal AM.
“I don’t think we’ve seen the best of Lucas Ribeiro, even though I think he’s a close contender for Footballer of the Season.
“I honestly think, in my opinion, as I said even before, it’s Ronwen Williams, Lucas Ribeiro, Marcelo Allende and Teboho Mokoena.
“And then, there must be, you have to commend the contribution of Maswanganyi and maybe Adams.
“But the reality is the level of Ronza, the level of Tebza, the level of Marcelo Allende, when he comes on today, you can see, and the level of Lucas Ribeiro, for me they’ve been outstanding this season.”
