SA Sports Minister Provides Update On VAR Implementation

Sports Minister Gayton McKenzie has confirmed that he’s held talks with both SAFA and the PSL in speeding up the process of implementing VAR in South African football.

McKenzie was among many that expressed their displeasure in the lack of VAR implementation in local football following a drama-filled Betway Premiership clash between Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns at a sold-out FNB Stadium last weekend.

“All football loving fans know that the time for VAR has arrived in SA football. We need VAR & we need it now, those meetings start now because we are not a 10th world country. I shall report back soonest after meeting SAFA & the PSL this week,” Mackenzie said at the time.

McKenzie has since provided an update saying that he has thoroughly gone through the presentation as well as budget needed to fund the VAR implementation.
