SAFA Give Update On Banyana Bonuses

South African Football Association (SAFA) president Dr Danny Jordaan has confirmed that each Banyana Banyana player received R400,000 for winning the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

There had been a debate around Banyana’s bonuses after conflicting reports as to how much money our heroes would get.

SAFA had promised the players R9.2 million in bonus, should they win the tournament before the team departed for WAFCON. The victory earned SAFA R8.4 million from the Confederation of African Football (CAF), with some thinking that money would also be due to the players.

However, SAFA confirmed on Friday that they have stuck to their initial agreement and paid each of the 23 players R400,000, with Thembi Kgatlana in attendance to acknowledge the receipt of the money on the players’ behalf.

“I’m happy to announce that we have honoured the commitment made by the president to reward the players with bonus money of R400,000 each,” Gift Sekone, SAFA Finance Manager told media during a press conference on Friday.

“We’ve treat this matter with urgency and tried to prioritise it. We processed the payment this morning. So all the 23 player we would like to confirm that they’ve been paid and we are very excited about.

“They’ve brought us the cup and we’re very happy to announce to have paid them.”
