Senegal Suffer Mane Blow Ahead Of World Cup – Report

Senegal have reportedly suffered a huge blow after Sadio Mane has reportedly been ruled out of the FIFA World Cup due to injury.

The African Footballer of the Year picked up a tendon injury against Werder Bremen on Tuesday and had to be substituted after just 20 minutes.

 

While initial reports suggested Mane would be ok for the 2022 tournament, which kicks off on 20 November, L’Equipe have now stated that Mane will miss the World Cup.

Bayern have since given an update on Mane’s injury, confirming he will their next game but didn’t want to rule him out ofd the World Cup: “Sadio Mané has picked up an injury to his right fibula against Werder Bremen. He will miss the game against Schalke. More tests need to be done in the coming days, Bayern are in contact with the medical team of Senegal.”

The news would be a massive blow for Senegal, with Mane currently being his country’s top goalscorer.

He has scored 11 goals and set up four more in 23 appearances since joining Bayern Munich from Liverpool ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

Mane has represented his country 92 times, scoring 33 goals, making him Senegal’s top goalscorer of all time.

The Lions of Teranga were drawn in Group A alongside hosts Qatar, Netherlands and Ecuador.
