Cape Town Spurs have suffered a major setback, losing key defender Lubeni Haukongo for the remainder of the season.
The Namibian international defender limped off in the final minutes of the 3-1 win against AmaZulu, and after the game, Ernst Middendorp confirmed that the 23-year-old is likely to be out for the season.
Haukongo was replaced by Jarrod Moroole for Spurs’ 1-0 defeat to AmaTuks in the Nedbank Cup midweek.
It was a new-look centre-back pairing for the Usuthu game, with Haukongo partnering new recruit Rafiq De Goede. With former captain Clayton Daniels having also exited the club, it is likely that Middendorp will have to reshuffle his defence.
Haukongo had only just returned to Spurs after a successful AFCON tournament with the Namibians.

“Definitely one stuff is clear, Lubeni is out for the rest of the season,” Middendorp said after the game.
“It’s absolutely unbelievable. But this is something where we have no control about, over the last number of months, I don’t know what they did. I don’t know in which way they handled it.
“He played good games, yes. But then he’s out and he comes back only three, four training sessions and so on.”
