Spurs Name New Captain

Cape Town Spurs have announced Chumani Butsaka as their new captain for the second half of the 2023/24 season.

Butsaka, 22, arrived at Spurs at the age of 13 and played in all divisions for the side. The sensational winger scored his first goal for Spurs in 2021/22 season in a 4-2 loss against University Of Pretoria.

He was also part of the Bafana Bafana squad that participated in the COSAFA Cup in July 2022.

The Cape Town-born winger played a vital role to Urban Warriors promotion to the DStv Premiership, staring alongside the likes of Ashly Cupido, Boitumelo Radiopane, Asanele Velebhayi and Therlo Moosa.

On Wednesday, Spurs announced Butsaka as the club new captain despite his young age after stripping the armband off Clayton Daniels and is currently not clear yet whether he will join club’s technical team or leave.

New signing Rafiq De Goode, experienced midfielder Keagan Buchanan and Jarrod Moroole are the club’s new vice captains. One of them will lead the club when Butsaka is not on the field of play.

The Western Cape side, who only collected four points so far, will continue their survival fight this coming Saturday against AmaZulu FC at Athlone Stadium.
