Mamelodi Sundowns hammered Golden Arrows 4-0 at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Tuesday, continuing their 100% start to the DStv Premiership campaign.
Neo Maema had the first good chance of the game after being set up by Marcello Allende but his shot from a tight angle only hit the side net after 11 minutes.
Two minutes later Rivaldo Coetzee, who returned to the starting XI after his red card in the season opener, found himself at the end of a corner but placed his shot next to the post.
Sundowns’ early pressure paid off in the 17th minute when Peter Shalulile netted the opener with a lovely overhead kick following a corner.
It was 2-0 just four minutes later, with Lesiba Nku scoring his first goal for Sundowns after finding himself at the end of a superb combination via Allende and Maema.
Teboho Mokoena almost made it 3-0 after 31 minutes but his powerful from the edge of the box only clipped against the outside of the post.
Grant Kekana scored Sundowns’ third with a well-placed header following another dangerous Allende corner in the 39′ minute.
With a comfortable three-goal lead at the break, Rulani Mokwena made three changes, giving rests to Allende, Mokoena and Zwane, with Terrence Mashego, Bongani Zungu and Bathusi Aubass getting a run-out.
But Downs took just three minutes before adding onto the scoreline, with Nku completing a brace after 48 minutes.
The home side, though, took the foot of the gas without losing control of the match. However, there were bad news for Mokwena as Shalulile pulled his hamstring and had to be taken off.
The win sees Sundowns climb to nine points after three games, while they’ve extended their unbeaten league run under Rulani Mokwena to 23 games.
