Sundowns Ladies Secure Crucial Away HSL Win Over UWC

The Hollywoodbets Super League top-of-the-table clash kicked off early Sunday morning between University Of Western Cape locked horns with Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Match started with high intensity both sides looking to get into the game as early as they could.

Sundowns kept pushing forcing UWC to make mistakes and in the 17th minute they were rewarded after a great effort from Botswana international Refilwe Tholakele.

Downs had few half chances as they were looking to get their second goal of the game and ease the pressure of the crunch fixture in the sweltering heat in the Western Cape.

Experienced Noxolo Cesane kept on troubling Sundowns on the right flank but couldn’t get something for the Cape Town side as the first half ended with 1-0.

UWC had a glorious chance in the 59th minute after Downs and experienced Banyana Banyana goalkeeper Andile Dlamini couldn’t deal with the corner but Amo Motau put it over the crossbar.

In the 65th minute Downs had a chance to extend the lead, but Ramalepe was denied by UWC goalkeeper Regirl Ngobeni.

It proved to be an end-to-end affair in the final stages as both sides knew what was at stake but the defending champions showed their experience to see it out – as three points moved them back to the summit of the Hollywoodbets Super League on goal difference.

Sundowns have a +69 goal difference to UWC’s +46 with both sides on 66 points heading into the final five games of the 2023 campaign.
