Sundowns Record Emphatic Win In Nigeria

Mamelodi Sundowns recorded an emphatic 5-1 win over Remo Stars in their CAF Champions League 2nd Preliminary Round 1st Leg at M.K.O. Abiola International Stadium on Sunday evening.

Reisinho nearly gave Sundowns the lead just 10 minutes in but saw his effort cleared off the line by the Serge Obassa before Tashreeq Matthews’ effort hit the side netting.

Matthews then made up for his missed shot two minutes later with a low pile drive from outside of the box to make it 1-0.

Reisinho’s headed effort in the 37th minute saw the Stars goalie pull off an audacious fingertip save out for a corner.

Masandawana were 2-0 to the good as Peter Shalulile beat his defender before slotting past Obassa into the bottom corner to double the lead.

Stars had a big chance to grab one goal back on the stroke of halftime, but Victor Mboama’s shot was well saved by Ronwen Williams.

Substitute Arthur Sales made it 4-1 in the 75th minute though the home side found a consolation two minutes later.

In the 85th minute, Lebogang Mothiba combined well with Tsiki Ntsabeleng who made no mistake from close range with the fifth goal of the match.

The win in Nigeria also means it’s the first time they have won there after previous failed attempts.
