Eric Tinkler is aiming to take Cape Town City back to the CAF Champions League and build the club towards the African Football League in future.
City finished second in the league back in the 2021/22 season and qualified for the Champions League the following season. Still, they were knocked out in the second round by Girabola champions Petro de Luanda 4-0 on aggregate.
After the elimination from Africa’s elite club competition, they were demoted to the Confederation Cup where they were eliminated by Algerian side USM Alger 1-0 on aggregate.
USMA went on to win the competition beating Tanzanian side Young Africans in the final last season.
City is on the right track as they currently sit second in the league table with 29 points level with third-placed SuperSport United.
“We see ourselves as a club that should be competing in the top four at least that should be how we see ourselves as a club and what my chairman expects from me,” Tinkler told the media.
“To do that, a lot of hard work has to be put in we have the experience a couple of seasons ago where we went into the Champions League unfortunately, we didn’t go as far as we would have liked but that’s a target and an objective for us.
“Chairman and I we’ve had that conversation, that we would like to see ourselves there again and then obviously all the rumours running around right now with the so-called Super League, you would like to see yourself should those types of things happen you become part and parcel.”
