Orlando Pirates earned a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Golden Arrows in a Betway Premiership clash at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Tuesday night to cut the gap at the top to nine points.
The first real chance fell to Arrows as early as the third minute but Siyanda Mthanti’s shot was palmed back into play by Melusi Buthelezi for an easy collection.

Pirates then went on the counterattack a minute later with Kabelo Dlamini taking a shot from just outside the box but it was deflected out for a corner.
In the 11th minute, Nhlanhla Zwane missed a glorious chance to give Arrows the lead as his free header agonisingly missed the target.
Sibusiso Msomi collected a pass from Thabo Matlaba on the edge of the box before unleashing a shot, but Buthelezi was equally up to the task.
Abafana Bes’thende should’ve taken a narrow lead into the break, but Mthanti put his hot wide in the 44th minute with just Buthelezi to beat as the sides headed into the tunnel locked at 0-0.

Pirates broke the deadlock in the 51st minute after Dlamini’s pin-point pass found Patrick Maswanganyi in acres of space who rounded Edward Maova before slotting home to make it 1-0.
Mthanti got Arrows back into the match, equalizing in the 59th minute to make it 1-1.
In the 72nd minute, the visitors made it 2-1 via Tshegofatso Mabasa’s roof net strike.
Bucs’ win means they have now narrowed the gap on leaders Mamelodi Sundowns to nine points with a game in hand.
