Stellenbosch FC DStv Diski Challenge head coach Evangelos Vellios wants his players to step up after a lukewarm start to the new campaign.
The defending champions haven’t started the season the way they would’ve wanted after collecting four points out of a possible nine. Stellies lost their first match of the season against their arch-rivals Cape Town City at Malta Park.
Vellios was left disappointed by the performance and stated that his charges needed to step up to get their season back on track.
“This Diski is always more generational, there’s a group of players who’ve carried with the program they moved on and there’s a few of them than need to step up and be counted,” Vellios told iDiski Times.
“It’s a long journey obviously you don’t want to start on four points, but we’ve had some difficult games. We went to Magesi’s first game, and we drew there you can see what they’ve done there they on five points now beating [Mamelodi] Sundowns on Saturday.
“This is gonna be a long season, but my concern is not so much on other teams is our team and some of the things we need to fix if we don’t do it, it’s just gonna be a very lukewarm season, we want a hot season and that’s all we want. If we just gonna be like this in difficult moments, then it’s gonna be the lukewarm season that’s not what we set ourselves in with the squad like this.”
