Golden Arrows coach Vusi Vilakazi is cutting a big smile that unsettled winger Pule Mmodi is back to his best form now at the club.
Mmodi, prior to the season, was unsettled with talks that he was heavily linked with a move away and possibly to Kaizer Chiefs.
But Chiefs, according to iDiski Times sources, did not meet the fee Arrows needed, leading to the move not happening.
However, that led a some disappointment for Mmodi, who Vilakazi admitted in the first game of the season that the former Uthongathi forward was not at his best.
However, Mmodi seems to have overcome the early setback and has now scored two goals in the last two matches, helping Arrows to climb into seventh in the log.
Mmodi scored the third goal as Arrows beat Chippa United 3-2 at Princess Magogo Stadium on Saturday after already finding the back of the net when Abafana Bes’Thende beat AmaZulu 1-0 to see the club get their first league win of the season in the club’s previous match.
“He’s improving, slowly but surely,” said Vilakazi after the game against Chippa on Saturday,” said Vilakazi when asked by iDiski Times about Mmodi.
“He was not the Pule we know but we must appreciate the contribution he’s making right now. He scored against AmaZulu and now against Chippa. I said he’s also a human being and he’s bound to get disturbed.
“When we started, he was sure that he was leaving the club and it didn’t happen, and that affected him. He’s slowly coming out of the closet in trying to make sure we get the best of Pule.”
There’s a danger here in Mmodi’s form, as it will restart and escalate further talks that he might leave the club in the January transfer window, something Vilakazi admitted as positive and negative at the same time.
“What I have said to him when he came back to his senses, it is not a train smash,” Vilakazi added.
“If there are people who still want you, it can still happen. But because it is not happening now, it shouldn’t kill you.
“Instead you must work harder and I made it clear that the team is not standing in his way. We said if anyone wants Pule we’ll sell Pule. But he’s trying his best.”
