After taking a slender lead into halftime, Orlando Pirates midfielder Thalente Mbatha has revealed what coach Abdeslam Ouaddou told them before they came out and completed the rout.
Mbatha netted the Buccaneers’ second goal and was named Man of the Match as they thumped Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila 4-1 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday afternoon to seal passage to the Nedbank Cup Last 16 Round.
Andre De Jong had opened the scoring from the penalty spot with Patrick Maswanganyi and Sipho Mbule completing the rout late on in the game.
“Coach told us at halftime that we’re bringing them into the game, and we must come back and score two goals for us to secure this game,” he said in his post-match interview on SuperSport TV.
“So, I believe that also the words the coach gave us in the change room and the words of encouragement that pushed us to come and continue.
“As you saw, that, the impact players came in and changed the game. ‘Tito’ [Patrick Maswanganyi] scored and assisted, so, for us it’s all about attitude and mentality to keep going.”
