AmaZulu President Sandile Zungu has spoken about potentially signing Dumisani Zuma and Gabadinho Mhango, saying they would be held accountable for their actions, should they join Usuthu.
Zuma was released by Kaizer Chiefs, despite having one more year left on his contract, due to “numerous disciplinary issues” but he’s been strongly linked with a move to Usuthu.
Even, though, Zuma’s agent confirmed to this publication that there had been no official communication with Zungu regarding Zuma, the AmaZulu boss hinted that Zuma would be one of the club’s new signings.
“Next week we’ll be able to announce and inform the public which players will be joining AmaZulu,” he told Andile Ncube on Sports Night Amplified when asked about the Zuma rumours.
“Among those players maybe people that soccer public is familiar with, with have played in the PSL and some maybe great names that South Africa are familiar who come from other leagues.
“Including Dumisani Zuma, who may feature or who may not feature.”
When asked whether he told Zuma, who was born in KZN, to come back home, Zungu elaborated on the fact that potential signings need to follow the club’s code of conduct.
“Everyone knows how talented that young man is and everyone is familiar with the disciplinary issues that Kaizer Chiefs have elaborated to the public,” he added.
“What Kaizer Chiefs elaborates to the public about their players, you’ve got to take them seriously because it’s one team who have done for this profession and who I don’t think go out on a limb to hurt the individuals.
“It’s tough love, ‘Dumisani, we love you, young man, we know you’re extremely talented, but how disappointed we’ve been.
“It’s quite obvious that if he were to come to AmaZulu, we’ll obviously bear in mind what your previous employer had to say about you and we’ll have a tough-talking to and we’ll expect some commitment from yourself.
“We’ll hold you to our code of conduct, we’ll show you the carrot but we’ll also tell you where the stick is.
“We love Dumisani Zuma, everyone knows how talented that young man is and KwaZulu-Natal is his home.
“Those who’ll form the core of AmaZulu must know that they’re not on holiday, they’ll be held accountable because what we don’t want is a social club or social enterprise. This is a business.
“It’s got people that have invested with their hearts in it, the AmaZulu faithful, they need to be rewarded and the least we expect is anyone joining AmaZulu to continue on a path to self-destruction – whether it’s Dumisani Zuma or its Gabadinho Mhango or anybody else.
“We love these boys, we’re here to support them and to build their career and to be better people in society and I’ll make sure that they become such.”
