Zwane Discusses Lack Of Game-Time At Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs young midfielder Samkelo Zwane says he could have done better with the opportunities that came his way from the Soweto giants this term so far.

Zwane, who was promoted at the start of the last season, has yet to start for Amakhosi this season, making six league appearances – all from the bench, including in the 1-1 draw against Sekhukhune United on 30 December last year.

Amakhosi will resume the second half of the season looking to maintain their four-games unbeaten streak when they visit Royal AM at Harry Gwala Stadium on Sunday.

“I feel I could have done better in the games I have played,” says Zwane, whose father Eugene played for Orlando Pirates.

“But I have great support from the coaches and teammates that encourage me to keep growing and improving.”

The 22-year-old, who just like all the rest of the teams were on the long break due to the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Ivory Coast, added: “I’m well. I have been keeping fit, and training with the guys. I have been working hard in training, waiting for my opportunity, which I’ll grab with both hands.”

Chiefs are yet to beat John Maduka’s side in KwaZulu-Natal since Royal AM bought their way into the top flight when they purchased the status of Bloemfontein Celtic ahead of the 2021/22 season.

Amakhosi’s only win over Shauwn Mkhize’s club in the coastal province was in the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals last season.

“Personally, I am ready, and, as a collective, we have all been working very hard at practice to ensure we hit the ground running,” Zwane added.
