Adams Reveals Downs’ CWC Target

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Jayden Adams says they have no hangover after finishing second in the CAF Champions League and are raring to get their FIFA Club World Cup in the USA underway.

Sundowns open their account in Group F against South Korean side Ulsan HD at midnight, looking for a positive start as they aim at getting out of the pool that also has Borussia Dortmund and Fluminense.

Adams joined Sundowns at the start of the year and impressed helping them to their eighth domestic league title and the final of the Champions League.

The 24-year-old admitted he feels good to be at a big tournament and training at great facilities but importantly to help Sundowns advance as far as possible.

“We are going to try our best to come as far as possible,” said Adams.

“So, the first focus is to get out of the group stage. So, we are working on that. I think the team is ready. We like to have the ball and even without the ball, the counter-press, the press, even if we go in a low block we stick as a team. I think for me it’s going to be a difficult game, but I think we can go through.

For the former Stellenbosch FC man, Ulsan is a closed book as Sundowns couldn’t find much footage of their opponents however feels the Betway Premiership champions have prepared well enough under the circumstances.

“I think they are a good team, they defend well, and they are a ball playing team,” added the Bafana Bafana international.

“Also, lots of movement lots of experience in the team but it’s going to be a nice challenge for us. It was a bit difficult for us because we don’t know them, their games don’t come on the TV so we can’t watch them.

“But the preparation was well, and I think the team is ready and focused.”
