With the 2022 FIFA World Cup now officially being finished, iDiski Times selected the Team of the Tournament, which includes as many players from Morocco as from champions Argentina.
The tournament in Qatar produced a record-breaking 172 goals, one more than the 1998 and 2014 editions, with several standout performers making history.
Lionel Messi became the first ever player to claim two Player of the Tournament awards after leading Argentina with seven goals and three assists to their third title.
Meanwhile, Kylian Mbappe won the Golden Boot with eight goals, including a hat-trick in Sunday’s final, which was only the second hat-trick scored in World Cup finals after Geoff Hurst in 1966.
Emiliano Martinez won the Goalkeeper of the Tournament award, while Enzo Fernandez was named Best Young Player – with all four awards winners making our Team of the Tournament.
In addition, Morocco stars Achraf Hakimi, Romain Saiss and Sofyan Amrabat were also selected in our team after helping the Atlas lions becoming the first ever African nation to reach the semi-finals.
Croatia stars Josko Gvardiol and Luka Modric also made our team after their fine performances that helped the 2018 runners-up to win back-to-back medals, while 2022 runners-up Theo Hernandez and Antoine Griezmann also made the selection.
