Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana left-back Terrence Mashego has revealed his club and country teammate Themba Zwane’s dream of qualifying for the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
Outside of hosting the 2010 edition of the global showpiece, South Africa has not qualified for a World Cup in 24 years. With how Bafana performed at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) where they won a medal for the first time in 24 years there is renewed belief the team can qualify.

The feat has inspired the team and the nation to believe that they can qualify for next World Cup. Bafana are currently in the qualifying rounds South Africa are second in group C tied on seven points with group leaders Rwanda and Benin behind them after four matches.
Speaking to iDiski Times senior writer Velile Mnyandu in edition 164 of the newspaper, Mashego revealed that 34-year-old Mshishi has been rallying his national teammates to work for the qualification for a country that has waited too long.
“I think what we’ve done at AFCON, everyone, even the players, has that belief” Mashego told iDiski Times.
“When you speak to the guys, everyone believes that we can do this. I remember even Mshishi was saying, ‘This is my last World Cup so we need to make sure that we qualify’. So, players believe that we are going to qualify. I think we owe it to South Africa to qualify.
Mashego also hailed Zwane calling him a GOAT who still has the legs to help the team reach the dream.
“That one is the best, the best player,” added Mashego.
“He still has legs. That guy is the best but I think what pushes him is the idea that we need to qualify. Sometimes, you don’t even feel your legs when you have a reason. Because of why you push”.
