Cameroon goalkeeper Andre Onana has announced his retirement from international football after he was dropped from the squad during the World Cup.
Onana was dropped from the squad just hours before Cameroon’s clash with Serbia over alleged disagreements with coach Rigobert Song.
It’s been suggested the issue was due to a heated disagreement with the technical team over his playing style, in which they have asked him to be less eccentric in his approach.
On Friday, Onana announced his international retirement despite only being 26 years old, saying “my story with the Cameroonian national team has come to an end”.
Onana made his international debut under none other than current Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos in 2016. He had represented his country 36 times, with his last game being a 1-0 defeat to Switzerland in Cameroon’s World Cup opener.
