Official: Ghana Appoint Former Bafana Coach

Ghana have appointed former Real Madrid, Manchester United, Portugal, and Bafana Bafana coach Carlos Queiroz to lead them during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Black Stars recently dismissed Otto Addo after two defeats to Austria (1-5) and Germany (1-2) in their two games during the international break.

Addo had lost his last four games in charge, with defeats to South Korea (0-1) and Japan (0-2) during the November international break.

The Black Stars had missed out on qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, but did book their ticket for the World Cup after winning eight out 10 games in their qualification group.

At the tournament in Canada, Mexico and the United States, Ghana are in a group with Panama, England and Croatia.

“The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association working with all key stakeholders, has appointed Carlos Queiroz as head coach of the senior national team, the Black Stars,” the Ghana Football Association stated.

“Coach Queiroz begins work immediately to prepare the Black Stars for the tournament, which kicks off in June 11, 2026.”
