Egypt have named their 2026 FIFA World Cup squad in what most believe will be a last one for few players including veteran goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy and captain Mohamed Salah.

Egypt have been drawn in G with Belgium, Iran and New Zealand. They start their campaign against Belgium on June 15 followed the match against the Kiwis on June 22 and close group stage campaign against Iran on June 27.

The Pharaohs are making a return to the global stage for the first time since the Russia World Cup in 2018. The North Africans enjoyed a near perfect qualification unbeaten in their group with eight wins out of 10.

The 2025 AFCON semi-finalists will also be looking to get their first ever victory at the World Cup having failed to do so in their three previous editions.

Meanwhile Salah has been named upfront with fellow attacker Omar Marmoush of Manchester City.

The Al Ahly midfield trio of Ahmed Sayed, Emam Ashour and Marwan Attia also made the squad. In defence Hossam Abdelmaguid, Mohammed Hany and Yasser Ibrahim who was instrumental in the side’s AFCON campaign will man the backline.

There was also a place for Mohamed Abdel Moneim after he returned from injury during the March International friendlies, but Mostafa Mohamed is the major omission by head coach Hossam Hassan.
