Al Ahly sporting director Sayed Abdelhafiz has confirmed that the club is very close to signing a new contract with South African coach Pitso Mosimane.
iDiski Times reported last week that both parties had made progress in their difficult contract talks, leading to Mosimane’s wife and agent Moira Thlagale traveling to Cairo to conclude the deal.
On Sunday, Abdelhafiz also indicated that both sides are nearing a conclusion of their negotiations, saying Mosimane’s contract “is 90% done”.
“Mosimane staying means more trophies and achievements. The negotiations for his renewal are happening behind closed rooms between the club’s management and the coach,” Abdelhafiz told Al Ahly TV.
“It is very likely that we will sign a new contract in January. I’d say it’s 90% done.”
Abdelhafiz also insisted that his side can compete at the FIFA Club World Cup, which kicks off later this week.
“Al Ahly doesn’t lack anything to win the Club World Cup, we only lack success in the first and second rounds,” he added.
“Last season, we beat Al-Duhail, but we clashed with Bayern Munich in the semi-finals,” he concluded.”
Meanwhile, the ‘Club of the Century’ also announced the return Egypt defender Mohamed Abdelmoneim, who was recalled from his loan deal with Future FC following his strong showing at the African Cup of Nations.
