Drogba Makes Bold Aboutrika Claim

Premier League legend Didier Drogna says the ‘African Zidane’ Mohamed Aboutrika would have thrived in European football.

Aboutrika is widely considered one of the greatest African footballers of all time but never moved to Europe during his career as he engraved his name in Egyptian football history with the Pharaohs and Al Ahly.

He won five 26 titles with the Red Devils which include five CAF Champions League winners medals and two Africa Cup of Nations trophies with the national team. And Drogba feels he could have enjoyed a career abroad, judging but the quality he saw.

“One player I would’ve loved to see in Europe and I believe he would’ve done fantastic in Europe is Aboutrika, he’s the African Zidane,” Drogba said on Mido’s Television Show on Mehwar TV (h/t) KingFut.

“A lot of elegance, he reads the game and he’s a very smart player, there’s a few like this. He should’ve gone if he had a chance to go to a big team.

“Because to go to Europe, for a player like this it’s more simple to play in the best teams because everybody understands each other. Players like Aboutrika I believe would’ve been a success.”
