Pitso: Next Time We Will Score Six Past Zamalek

Al Ahly head coach Pitso Mosimane says the good days are back and cheekily suggested they’ll score six past Zamalek in the next Cairo Derby.

The three-time CAF Champions League-winning coach masterminded a 5-3 win away from home against the reigning Egyptian Premier League champions on Friday evening.

In what is considered the biggest derby in African football, his side ran riot with three goals in the opening half and at one point led 5-1 in the second half before the White Knights hit back with two late goals.

After the game, the South African tactician lauded his troops and claimed they tactically outwitted Patrice Carteron’s outfit.

“We came to Zamalek’s home to get a good result and we got the good result. My players played with good spirit and we were tactically clever, a little bit smarter and we could find the holes to pass the ball inside,” Mosimane said in the post-match press conference.

“It was the same way we played against Ismaily, we found the passing lines, it was a big game against Zamalek – this is a Champions League game and we scored five goals and I’m happy with my team.”

Mosimane further suggested that the performance silenced the doubters and they’ll prove it once again when they meet their fierce city rivals again in the season.

“We scored three in the first half and two in the second half, yes I want more but you can’t have everything. Okay we scored five goals and I don’t know the history against Zamalek, probably once we scored more than that with Ahly, I’m not sure about the history. Inshallah next time [we’ll score six]. How many years ago was it, 20 years. Good days are back.

“We are a big team, we are the champions of Africa, we are the team that is number three in the world, we are the Super Cup champions, we are Al Ahly and you saw Al Ahly on the pitch. Thanks to the supporters who gave us a little bit of energy – we are a big team.”

The league leaders face Al Makawloon in the league next Friday while fifth place Zamalek will travel to face Ismaily.
