Pitso Mosimane has revealed that Percy Tau was heartbroken about missing the FIFA Club World Cup due to injury and what he told him.
The South African tactician spoke to the South African Football Journalists Association after bringing another bronze medal for himself from the FIFA Club World Cup.
He also opened up on Tau’s situation after the Bafana Bafana winger missed the tournament due to picking up an injury before the tournament.
Tau was part of the Al Ahly squad that traveled to the United Arab Emirates but had to focus on his recovery work, with Mosimane insisting he will be back stronger.
“I could see he was down and demotivated ahead of our first match [at the Club World Cup],” Mosimane told reporters.
“I said to him ‘I know you came for this, you came to play the World Cup. Unfortunately your injury robbed you of the opportunity to play’.
“I said to him ‘help us in the Champions League and you have another opportunity to come back’.
“[He was] very disappointed that he was not part of the World Cup, because I know Percy when he’s, it was his opportunity, his chance to dance and show the world that he could’ve played at Brighton, he should’ve been given a chance to play.
“It was so sad for Percy, it was sad for me also because this is what I brought him here.
“But he’s training, you know he’s a professional. He’s training very well and we’re hoping he can make at least the second game against Mamelodi Sundowns.
“We want him to help us to win the Champions League, so he’s coming, he’s coming my boy.”
