Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahly collected a 0-0 draw with Tala’ea El-Gaish in the Egyptian Premier League on Wednesday evening, while Fagrie Lakay’s Pyramids lost.
The reigning CAF Champions League holders returned to domestic football on Wednesday, facing 11th-placed El-Gaish.
However, Mosimane’s side, with Percy Tau in the starting XI, failed to break down the opposition defence despite dominating large parts of the match.
The goalless draw leaves Al Ahly in second place, three points behind rivals Zamalek, who have two games in hand.
Al Ahly have collected 32 points from 13 games so far, while Zamalek sit on 35 points from 15 matches.
After starting the 2021/22 league season on fire, scoring 30 goals in 10 matches, Mosimane’s side have only netted once in their last three matches, dropping five points in their last two games.
Al Ahly next face Ceramica Cleopatra, who beat Fagrie Lakay’s Pyramids 1-0 in the other match on Wednesday evening.
