Manchester United wonderkid Hannibal Mejbri is among the youngest players who will feature at the Africa Cup of Nations at just 18 – but who’s the youngest?
The Tunisia international joined the Premier League giants from AS Monaco in August 2019 in a deal worth a reported €10-million and has impressed through their academy system towards first-team promotion.
Having been born in France, he was eligible to represent the reigning FIFA World Cup champions but the North Africans called him up in June last year for his senior debut and he’s racked up nine caps since then.
But the technically gifted midfielder isn’t the youngest who will feature at the event in Cameroon this month – this honour lies with Mauratainia midfielder Beyatt Lekweiry who was called up by head coach Didier Gomes.
Having impressed at the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, the 16-year-old was rewarded for his incredible progress with local outfit AS Douanes – a team he’s likely not going to remain much longer with based on his current trajectory.
