Zamalek Blame Pitso For Carteron No-Show

Zamalek SC have backed Patrice Carteron after the Cairo Derby defeat to Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahly and revealed why he didn’t turn up for the post-match press conference.

Carteron cut a frustrated figure on the sidelines last Friday as Ahly ripped through their defence at home in the Egyptian Premier League encounter and at one point trailed 5-1.

Two late goals from Ahmed Sayed and Achraf Bencharki restored some respectability to the scoreline at 5-3 and the club has since backed the Frenchman to remain in the role.

The 2020/21 Egyptian Premier League winning coach is said to have repaid their faith by rejecting the chance to replace new FC Barcelona head coach Xavi at Al Sadd and managing director Amr Farouk Abul-Ezz has opened up on the recent press conference saga.

“According to the regulations, the press conference begins ten minutes after the match, in the presence of the coach of the away team,” he told ‘Koora Every Day’ on Al-Hayat channel on Tuesday evening.

“We waited for 28 minutes, and the press conference did not start because Pitso Mosimane did not attend, we are Zamalek, we are not a small club, and it is not permissible to wait for anyone.

“We came to the press conference hall, and the coach of the opposing team or the match observer did not attend, and there are witnesses to the incident, and for this reason, we withdrew from the conference.”

Abul-Ezz concluded that they sent a letter to the league on 7 November to explain the happenings behind the scenes after being imposed with an EGP 20,000 fine for the incident.

Club President Hussein Labib claimed they are unconcerned about the heavy defeat and have laid official complaints against the ‘bias’ match commentator and abusive chants of the Red Devils fans.

“We fully trust the coaching staff, support them, and know their ability and the players’ ability to return to victories, Inshallah, despite the loss in the derby,” Labib told the club’s official website.

“We decided to file an urgent complaint against the biased match commentator to the concerned authorities. The committee has also submitted an urgent complaint regarding the abusive chants of Al Ahly fans during the match.”
