Al Ahly Legend Praises Pitso
Al Ahly legend Emad Meteb has praised Pitso Mosimane for his tactical setup against Esperance in Al Ahly’s CAF Champions League semi-final first-leg victory despite the teargas drama ahead of the kick-off.
Mosimane set up his team to control the game and stop Esperance’s threats before focussing on his own side’s attacks, which worked out perfectly as Mohamed Sherif scored Al Ahly’s winner in the second half.
“Mosimane refused to attack against Esperance in the first leg, and played a match with great balance and relied on the right players and the best method,” he told OnTime Sport TV, as per Kingfut.
“The Reds were the most dangerous throughout the match and deserved to win.”
Meteb also addressed the teargas tussle between local police and Esperance fans inside the stadium ahead of the game, which caused players from both teams to interrupt their warm-ups and head back into the dressing rooms as they struggled to breathe.
“Personally, I love playing in front of big crowds, and (Al Ahly president) El-Khatib’s decision to play the match today against Esperance in these difficult circumstances is a decision only big personalities who bear true responsibilities can make,” he added.
“Mosimane respected Esperance without exaggeration or underestimation, and the presence of El-Khatib at the head of Al-Ahly’s mission in Tunisia was an important factor in winning victory and returning from Rades with a precious win.”
Al Ahly now welcome Esperance in their second leg on Saturday at 21:00, SA time, when they can book their spot in this year’s CAF Champions League final.
