Al Ahly: Tau Had Offers From Belgium

Al Ahly’s director of transfers Amir Tawfik has opened up on the ‘extremely difficult’ deal to sign Percy Tau and revealed the South African had offers from Belgium as well.

Tau joined the Egyptian giants during the current transfer window, leaving Brighton & Hove Albion for a reported fee of €1.8 million, which is paid in instalments.

Tawfik has now explained that Tau’s move to the ‘Club of the Century’ needed six weeks of negotiations and coach Pitso Mosimane had to convince the player to join the Red Devils, snubbing offers from Belgium.

“Percy Tau deal was extremely difficult, the negotiations with Brighton for a month and a half, and they were asking for a very high price,” Tawfik said, as per Kingfut.

“It was also hard to convince the player to leave the Premier League, but Mosimane helped a lot with that, and at the end, he chose Al Ahly over other offers from Belgium.”

Al Ahly’s director of transfers also confirmed that their business for this window is done after Tau, Luis Miquissone, Karim Fouad, Mostafa El Badry and Hossam Hassan joined the club.

“The summer signings are now over, the preparation period for the new season is about to start,” he added.
