Amiens Give Zungu Update
Amid speculation that Bongani Zungu could return to South Africa, Amiens president Bernard Joannin has given an update on the midfielder’s future.
The 28-year-old ended his loan spell with Rangers after lifting the Scottish Premiership under Steven Gerrard.
However, the Scottish giants opted against taking up the option to buy Zungu, who had to return to his mother club Amiens.
The French side, who were relegated to Ligue 2 in 2019/20, represented their new coach, Philippe Hischberger this week and the club president addressed several transfer rumours at the unveiling.
Joannin confirmed that Amiens are planning with Zungu for the coming season, with Maligue2 quoting him as saying: “Bongani Zungu, who is returning from his Rangers loan, will be an excellent recruit”.
Zungu has made 59 appearances for Amiens since joining them from Vitoria Guimares in 2017, but those came when the French side were still in Ligue 1.
He was close to leaving the club in January 2020 when a move to LaLiga side Real Mallorca broke down because Amiens couldn’t secure a replacement and new reports in local media claim he could again be on the lookout for a new club this window.
The Bafana Bafana midfielder still has one year left on his contract.
