Kevin-Prince Boateng says that training with Lionel Messi left him feeling inadequate for the first time in his career.
The 33-year-old, who is now on the books of Italian club Monza, spent six months at Barcelona in the 2018/2019 season, and has spoken about the experience of training alongside the Argentinian legend.
“The six months at Barcelona were incredible. At first I didn’t believe it, I thought it was Espanyol who wanted me, not the real Barcelona,” Boateng said in an interview with DAZN.
“Training with Messi left me speechless. I had always said that Cristiano Ronaldo was the best in the world, but Messi is something else. He is not normal!”
“While training with him, I felt inadequate for the first time in my career. He was doing incredible things. I felt like saying I’m done! I’m going to quit playing!”
Boateng was on loan at Barcelona from Sassuolo, and lifted the La Liga title with Barcelona that season.
