Brighton Boss Praises Tau After EPL Cameo

Graham Potter was full of praise for Percy Tau after his superb assist in his first Premier League appearance since January.

The Young Lion, who celebrated his 27th birthday this week, came off the bench in Brighton’s 1-1 draw with West Ham United on Sunday.

Despite his lack of game time, having last featured for Brighton in the Premier League in their 1-0 win over Leeds United on 16 January, Tau looked very sharp and assisted his side’s opener by Danny Welbeck.

“It was a nice goal from us,” Potter said.

“It was a great finish and a great pass from Percy.

“Percy came on and had a really good impact. He found some nice space and it was a great weight of pass for a nice assist.”

Potter also explained why he finally gave the South African winger a chance on the pitch again.

“I wanted fresh legs in that position,” he explained.

“I thought Percy with his left foot could give us versatility in behind that back-line.”

The Brighton coach lamented West Ham’s late equaliser but insisted it was another good performance by his side.

“It could have been a bit more as were 1-0 up with not long to go [but] I wouldn’t say we deserved to win,” Potter added.

“I’m a bit disappointed with the end but it’s a decent point against a team who have had a really good season and were fighting for the points.

“It’s a credit to the players again, they limited a good team to not many chances.”

Brighton already secured Premier League survival but have two more tough fixtures, hosting Manchester City at the Amex Stadium on Tuesday before travelling to Arsenal for the final game of the season.
