Kgaogelo Chauke has made his Southampton debut after being included in their FA Cup starting line-up against Shrewsbury Town tonight.
Chauke was born in Pretoria but moved to the UK with his family when he was just one.
He joined Southampton in 2017 when he was 14 from Thatcham Town, a small semi-professional team in Berkshire.
He moved his way through the ranks and has become a regular in the Saints under-18 and under-23 teams, with many reported impressive performances. He signed a professional contract with the club a year ago, when he was just 16.
Chauke was included in David Notoane’s 78 strong preliminary squad for the Tokyo Olympics, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, local football supporters have not had a chance to see the teenager yet.
While Chauke is eligible to play for England, it has been reported that he and his family are keen for him to represent South Africa.
Chauke played 78 minutes before being substituted in the 2-0 win for the Saints.
