Chiefs Break Record In Heroic CAFCL Win
Kaizer Chiefs became the first ever South African side to win a match in Morocco and also broke an impressive record with their 1-0 victory over Wydad Casablanca on Saturday.
The Glamour Boys spoiled Wydad’s home party in front of 5 000 fans, stealing a 1-0 win against all odds thanks to a first-half goal by Samir Nurkovic.
It was Amakhosi’s six victory in this season’s CAF Champions League campaign, more than they ever collected in a single CAFCL season.
Their previous best run came in 1993 when they collected five CAFCL wins.
Chiefs became the first South African side to win the away leg in a CAF Champions League semi-final, with SA teams failing to win the previous six away legs at this stage of the competition.
It was also Chiefs first ever victory in Morocco after losing 2-0 to Raja Casablanca in the first round second leg in 2015.
Stuart Baxter’s men, though, still have another 90 minutes ahead of them before they can reach the club’s first ever CAF Champions League final.
