Espérance Sportive de Tunis have closed the gap on Mamelodi Sundowns in the qualification race for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
Rulani Mokwena’s team could secure their spot at the FIFA Showpiece next year if they can overturn their 1-0 first-leg deficit on Friday when they play the second leg against Espérance in the CAF Champions League semi-finals.
However, if Espérance progresses, they will move into third in the ranking pathway and Sundowns will have to hope that Mazembe do not win this year’s CAFCL.
But, if either Al Ahly beats TP Mazembe in the other semi-final, or the DR Congo club lose in the final, Sundowns would still qualify for the tournament.
Al Ahly and Wydad have already qualified as the two most recent CAFCL champions.
