FIFA Issue World Cup Qualifiers Update
FIFA have issued a statement about the upcoming World Cup qualifiers in Africa , that were meant to start next month.
The group stage qualifiers were originally meant to start last year in November, but were postponed until early June because of Covid-19 – and they have now been postponed for a second time.
The qualifiers will now only begin in September later this year.
This could be considered good news for Bafana Bafana, who appointed a new coach in Belgian Hugo Broos, on Wednesday. Bafana have been grouped with Ghana, Zimbabwe and Ethiopia.
The full FIFA statement:
“FIFA can confirm that in conjunction with CAF and taking into consideration the current disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the need to ensure optimal playing conditions for all teams, it has been decided to postpone the African qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™️ that were due to be played in June 2021.
“The qualifiers are now scheduled to take place in the existing windows of September, October and November 2021, and March 2022.
