Ghana Legend Gyan Slammed Over Penalty Comments

December 2, 2021

Ghana all-time record goalscorer Asamoah Gyan has been slammed for his comments over the penalty against Bafana Bafana in the recent 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

Senegalese referee Maguette Ndiaye had given the home side a controversial penalty after Danier Amartey was ruled to been brought down by Rushine De Reuck inside the box before Andre Ayew converted the penalty.

It was the only goal of the game and the 1-0 win saw the Black Stars overtake Bafana on the log to qualify for the play-offs.

The South African Football Association has since lodged an official protest with FIFA, accusing the match official of match fixing and match manipulation.

While many Ghanaians had defended the penalty call, Gyan had come out questioned the decision, saying Amartey went down too easy.

He has now been slammed for his comments, with controversial Ghanaian football administrator and chairman of King Faisal Babes, Alhaji Karim Grusah blasting Gyan for his remarks.

“Asamoah Gyan is an ungrateful person and a pretender,” Grunsah told Atinka FM, as cited by Ghanasportsonline

“He won’t even get the opportunity to become a ball boy again with the Black Stars.

“He should stop talking about the penalty against South Africa if he has no better things to tell Ghanaians.”

SAFA and the Ghanaian Football Association are awaiting the outcome of FIFA’s investigation.
