Romelu Lukaku has opened up on the how he felt after hearing about the collapse of his Inter Milan teammate Christian Eriksen.
The midfielder broke down during Denmark’s game against Finland on Saturday, with paramedics having to reanimate him on the pitch.
The game first got suspended after Eriksen was attended to on the pitch for many minutes before he was taken to hospital after he was stabilised.
It continued on the same night, with Finland beating Denmark to clinch their first triumph at a major tournament.
Lukaku’s Belgium were in action a few hours after the incident and Lukaku revealed that he was deeply affected by what happened to his club teammate.
“I had a lot of tears before the game. It was difficult to focus. Other players were affected too,” he told Sporza, as cited by Kristof Terreur.
“I’m going to contact him. I read that he’s out of danger. I hope he’ll be in good health soon.
“I am happy with the victory, but my thoughts are with Christian.”
Lukaku won the Man of the Match award in his game after scoring a brace in Belgium’s 3-0 over Russia. He ran to the camera after scoring his first goal, shouting “Chris, I love you.”
