Argentine and Paris Saint-Germain star Lionel Messi has revealed who he will vote for in the Ballon d’Or award.
The current Ballon d’Or holder is among the 30 nominees for this year’s award and could potentially win it for a record-breaking seventh time.
Messi who has joined Paris Saint-Germain after his exit from FC Barcelona, is the current holder of the accolade after beating Virgil Van Dijk and Cristiano Ronaldo in 2019.
The 34-year-old has collected Golden Ball six times so far, while Ronaldo has won it five times. He now revealed he will voted for his PSG teammates and not Ronaldo.
“Obviously, I have two players in my team for whom I will vote, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe,” Messi told France Football.
However, the PSG superstar has also admitted that Robert Lewandowski and Karim Benzema would also be deserving of the accolade.
“There are players who individually have had a great season, like Robert Lewandowski and Karim Benzema has also had a great year,” he added.
“It’s hard to say who will win because what you do as a team matters a lot in the Ballon d’Or.
“It used to be the best player of the year that won the award, but now it’s the one who accumulates the most titles. Achieving things has a lot of weight in this award.”
The Ballon d’Or award will be handed out in November as France Football has recently announced.
