Messi – Why I Joined PSG

Lionel Messi has explained why he opted to join Paris Saint-Germain just days after his shock FC Barcelona exit.

The Argentine was announced as new PSG signing on Wednesday evening, with the club confirming Messi had put pen to paper on a two-year deal with an options for a third.

The 34-year-old will wear the Nr. 30 shirt at Parc des Princes and had his unveiling press conference today.

Among many topics discussed, Messi also explained why he opted for PSG over his other offers, with Messi praising the quality of his new team and their signings this window so far.

“Everyone knows how hard it was to leave Barcelona. I am absolutely loving my time in Paris so far,” he said during his unveiling press conference.

“I am very grateful that such complicated negotiations were made so easy. Truly. I feel this club is ready to fight for every title.

“The team here is incredible. There have been some amazing signings. This will be an unbelievable experience for me.”

Messi will now start to train with the club but it remains to be seen when he will make his debut, having not had a pre-season so far. PSG’s next game is on Saturday against Lebo Mothiba’s Strasbourg, but the 34-year-old said he wasn’t sure where he take to the pitch.

“My first game? I don’t know when I’ll play,” he added.

“I’ve been on holiday for a month and just returned. I may need a pre-season myself. But I hope it will be as soon as possible. I really want to play.”

The Argentine also spoke about his desire to lift the UEFA Champions League with the French giants.

“My goal and my dream is to win the Champions League once more. I think that we have the team to do it here,” he explained.
