Mamelodi Sundowns co-head coach Manqoba Mngqithi has reacted to Gaston Sirino revealing his admiration for Al Ahly.
Sirino publicly flirted with a move to the Egytian giants ahead of the first leg, saying he would like to wear the Al Ahly shirt in future.
In addition, it was also reported that the Masandawana forward was pictured wearing an Al Ahly shirt after their 2-0 first-leg defeat in Cairo.
His coach did not seem to be too pleased with all the “negative” noise from his own player but didn’t want to go into too much detail because Sirino could still play an important role in the second leg on Saturday.
“I would prefer not to comment on that because I think it’s outside the parameters of what I would have appreciated talking about,” he told local media.
“But you’re right I don’t think it was appropriate for him to do that. It’s something I don’t really want to dwell on this much at this stage. I want to focus on winning the match and not on all the negatives that might affect us.
“The same player I could say something negative about him now and come Saturday he makes us win the match – what would you say after?”
Sundowns host Al Ahly at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday at 15:00, when they will attempt to win their first knockout game in the CAF Champions League since beating Al Ahly 5-0 at the same venue in 2018/19.
