Patrice Motsepe is officially the new president of CAF, after having been sworn in at today’s General Assembly in Rabat, Morocco.
It was an open-secret that Motsepe would become president following the withdrawals in the past few weeks of the other candidates Augustin Senghor (Senegal), Ahmed Yahya (Mauritania) and Jacques Anouma (Cote D’Ivoire).
Motsepe is the first English-speaking president and the first from Southern Africa to lead the continental body.
Motsepe will now step down as president of Mamelodi Sundowns, with his son set to take over the reigns.
