Nurkovic – Less Cheating With VAR
Samir Nurkovic has praised the use of VAR in the CAF Champions League semi-finals after his goal against Wydad Casablanca had initially been ruled out by the assistant referee.
The 29-year-old striker scored Chiefs only goal in their heroic 1-0 victory at Wydad in the first leg of their semi-final in Morocco.
Nurkovic’s goal had initially been flagged offside by the assistant referee but luckily the decision was overruled by the Video Assistant Referee system which is being used in the semi-finals and final of Africa’s elite club competition.
“It (VAR) is important because there will be less cheating,” Nurkovic said.
“If it was not important the biggest leagues in the world wouldn’t be using it.”
The Serbian forward also said he was happy to help the team to collect an important result away from home but insisted the tie is far from over.
“I am really happy to have contributed to the victory, it was a good team effort and we have to continue with the same fighting spirit,” he added.
“I mean, it was a great team effort. And I was really happy to have contributed to the victory. But we can, we can just, you know, still be celebrating because it’s only a half time and next week, replaying them at home, and we have to make sure to, to win the game as well.”
