Official: Al Ahli Sign Pitso Successor

Saudi Arabian giants Al Ahli have finally announced the successor for Pitso Mosimane, appointing German coach Matthias Jaissle.

The 35-year-old joins the club from Red Bull Salzburg, where he won back-to-back Austrian League titles and one Austrian Cup.

He joined RB Salzburg from Liefering in 2021 and had won 64 of his 92 games in charge and collected an average 2.28 points per game.

Ahli had been linked with other names, including Massimilliano Allegri and Marco Silva, but eventually had to settle for Jaissle after being rejected by a few of their preferred candidates.

“We are happy that Matthias Jaissle, with all his experience, joined Al-Ahly Club,” Al Ahli CEO, Mr. Yazan Al-Sharif said.

He also stressed that the new coach is of great value and stature and a strong addition, considering this an important step within the performance development strategy, especially since Jaissle is considered one of the best, young coaches in the world.

Jaissle follows Mosimane, who had guided the club back into the Saudi Pro League after their first-ever relegation. However, the South African tactician claims he wasn’t paid for the last six months and left the club in May before joining United Arab Emirates side Al Wahda.

Al Ahli have also signed Edouard Mendy, Roberto Firmino, Riyad Mahrez and Allan Saint-Maximin.
