FC Barcelona have appointed Xavi Hernandez as the club’s new coach after Ronald Koeman was sacked, they confirmed.
The 41-year-old left his role at Al Sadd, where he won four trophies, to start a new era at the Camp Nou.
Xavi will be unveiled as new Blaugrana manager on Monday after agreeing to a two-and-a-half year deal.
“FC Barcelona have reached an agreement with Xavi Hernández for him to become first team coach for the rest of the current season and two more seasons,” the club said in a statement.
“Xavi Hernández, a youth team product at Barça, has left his current club, Al-Sadd of Qatar, after talks held over the last few days with the owners of the club.
“It is expected that Xavi Hernández will arrive in Barcelona this weekend and that on Monday 8 November his presentation as new FC Barcelona first team coach will take place in an event open to the public at Camp Nou.
“After the event Xavi Hernández will appear in a press conference in the Ricard Maxenchs press room.”
The news were already confirmed by his former club Al Said on Friday after they stated that Barcelona paid Xavi’s €5 million release clause after the Spaniard confirmed his desire to return to Barcelona.
Xavi spent his whole playing career at Barcelona before finishing his career at Al Sadd. He lifted 25 trophies during his time at the Camp Not, before adding another four with Al Sadd.
