Orlando Pirates’ second leg in the CAF Confederations Cup has been cancelled after their Liberian opponents withdrew from the competition.
The Buccaneers won the first leg of their third qualifying round fixture 2-0 at the Samuel Canyon Doe Stadium in Monrovia thanks to goals by Tshegofatso Mabasa and Fortune Makaringe.
Pirates, though, will not need to play the second leg as well after Oilers withdrew from the competition, as CAF confirmed on Thursday evening in a statement.
“CAF has received a letter from Liberia FA confirming the withdrawal of LPRC Oilers from the TotalEnergies CAF Confederations Cup this season.
“Consequently, this weekend’s scheduled fixture between Orlando Pirates and LPRC Oilers has been cancelled in accordance to Regulations of the competition.”
As a consequence, Pirates will advance to the group stages of the CAF Confederations Cup.
