Pitso Asks For Respect From Mngqithi

Pitso Mosimane has asked for more respect from Mamelodi Sundowns co-head coach Manqoba Mngqithi after he had been outspoken about Al Ahly’s weaknesses.

The South African tactician saw his side eliminate Masandawana after securing a 1-1 draw in the second leg to advance 3-1 on aggregate.

Afterwards ‘Jingles’ explained that Mngqithi’s words ahead from before the match had fired him and his players up before adding that it does not matter how you win football games.

“You see the thing is, when you start pointing fingers at people,” he said.

“When you start pointing fingers at people, they prepare for you. When you point fingers saying ‘we will beat you, we play better than you, you are weak in defense.’

“We prepare because you are making us sharpen the sword.

“So it’s better to give respect, and have your plan, but put the plan on the pitch.

“This thing of saying ‘Ahly doesn’t have the best defense’ is not right. Who has a bad defense? We scored three goals.

“We can say everything. This one is playing better than that one, it’s ok. Football has got a lot of components.

“It doesn’t mean that because you play smart, you play good. There are free-kicks, corner-kicks and set pieces. And I worked so hard on Friday, only on set-pieces.

“I’ve got the bigger boys. I mean I know Thapelo (Morena), I know Lyle (Lakay), I know (Aubrey) Modiba, Pitso (Sphelele Mkhulise), AJ (Andile Jali), they goal will gonna come. It’s only Ricardo Nascimento and Musa (Lebusa).

“You could see when (Peter) Shalulile was struggling with their bodies, because they are bigger boys. In the PSL he will fo whatever he wants but over there, they are big boys.

“It’s like playing in the World Cup, you know how (Robert) Lewandowski plays. They are big boys, you will lose because of other components. Esperance lost (the first leg), too because of set-pieces.

“Who cares how you win! It’s who is in the semi-final now.”

Al Ahly will face Esperance in the semi-final of the CAF Champions League in June but they will already have a chance to lift their next trophy on Friday when they will meet RS Berkane in the CAF Super Cup.
