Pitso Gives Early Injury Update
Pitso Mosimane has given an early injury update ahead of his side’s second leg against Mamelodi Sundowns, confirming that three key players are still sidelined.
The South African coach had already received bad news earlier in the week after two of his players – Mohamed Mahmoud and Mostafa Shobier – tested positive for COVID-19.
Striker Marwan Mohsen also missed the trip to South Africa after picking up a knee injury, while long-term absentees Ali Maaloul and Hamdy Fathy did travel.
However, Mosimane told the club’s official website that both players as well as Saad Samir are still injured.
“We do have many injuries, as Ali Maaloul, Saad Samir, and Hamdy Fathy are still injured,” he said.
“Yes, we missed them, of course. But football is a professional sport and injuries will always happen.
“Especially when you play tournaments like this, where we have three different tournaments and within ten days, playing every time, injuries happen.
“We have all those difficult things, but we are going very well. We are not very happy, but we are ok, we are getting the results.”
Al Ahly will face Downs at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday, when the defending champions will hope to progress to the CAFCL semi-finals after beating Sundowns 2-0 at home.
